Keep Cra independent

Cra is free and open source, built by one person in Denmark. Here is what it costs to keep a browser going and how you can help.

Where the money goes

Chromium updatesEvery Chromium release is rebuilt with Cra’s patches and video codecs, tested, signed and shipped, often within days, because browser security fixes can’t wait.
Apple Developer ProgramThe membership that signs and notarizes Cra, so it opens without warnings and updates itself. Renewed every year.
Build machines and hostingChromium is a large build. Releases, this website and the update feed run on paid services.
TimeArc parity, bug reports, new macOS versions and the engine underneath all of it. Sponsorships are what could make Cra a full-time job instead of an evening one.

How to help

Sponsor monthly. A few dollars a month on GitHub Sponsors is the most useful kind of help, because it is steady. You can cancel any time.

Give once. GitHub Sponsors takes one-time amounts too.

Help without money. Report bugs with the steps to repeat them, vote on issues, star the repository and tell the people who are leaving Arc.

Sponsor on GitHub, open an issue or star the repository.

What stays the same

  • Everything Cra does today stays free and open source under the MIT licence.
  • No ads, no telemetry and no selling of data, sponsored or not.
  • Sponsoring doesn’t unlock anything in the app. It keeps the app going.

Using Cra at work?

If your company runs Cra on managed Macs, sponsoring as a company keeps the browser your team depends on maintained. Priority fixes and help with deployment (MDM policies, single sign-on) can be part of that. Get in touch to talk about it.
